Registration is now open for next Thursday’s LA/CreativeMornings! This month’s theme: food.
Jessica Koslow is the founder of, the restaurant and preserves company, Sqirl. The Long Beach-born jam-maker spent time working in pastry at the James Beard award-winning restaurant Bacchanalia in Atlanta, Georgia. When she returned to California, Jessica was attracted to the diversity of local produce – beautiful and honest snapshots of the state’s vigorous growing seasons.
Her preserves are made without shortcuts. In order to maintain the brightness of the fruit a batch can take up to three days to produce. The results are meticulously crafted preserves that not only portray the wealth and diversity of California’s crops and its generous seasons, but also remind us of the value in the antique process of preservation. Sqirl – it’s the jam.
Her restaurant, Sqirl Kitchen, continues to receives accolades and rave reviews. Recently, it was listed in the LA Times top 101 restaurants in LA and it was the #2 choice from LA Times readers as the restaurant they most want to visit.
People don’t fall in love with businesses. At the end of the day, they fall in love with personalities.
- Yo Santosa, Founder of FERRO CONCRETE
“If I can be just a little part of the inspiration of future thinkers, leaders, and discoverers, I feel like I’ve done my job.”

In February’s LosAngeles/CreativeMornings, Joel Arquillos of 826LA talks about running a non-profit… and a little bit of time travel.
We run a time travel store…They look through the window in the speciality refrigerator, between the robot milk and dinosaur eggs, and that sucks them in.

We’re excited to see everyone tomorrow morning for what should be an awesome CreativeMornings at 826LA. Here’s some information on the venue itself:
The entrance to the venue is in the back, it’s not on Sunset. You’ll enter through the parking lot that is between Lemoyne St. and Logan St. If you’re driving, there is a paid lot behind 826LA, again between Lemoyne St. and Logan St.
Coffee and pastries, from Taza Cafe, will be served on the back patio. We’ll also be checking attendees there. The Time Travel Mart will be open after the event. See you tomorrow!
Joe Stewart from HUGE speaks at January’s LosAngeles/CreativeMornings. The theme: happiness.
Video by Levi Obery.
As we’ve mentioned before, all of our 2013 CreativeMornings will be theme-based. We kicked off the year with “happiness” and this month’s we’re talking about “money” chosen by our friends at the Zurich chapter and sponsored globally by Squarespace.
Our speaker here in Los Angeles is 826LA’s Executive Director Joel Arquillos. When the money theme was announced, we wanted to focus on a non-profit and when we think of creative non-profits in LA we immediately think of 826LA. We’re huge admirers of the work that 826 does nationally and we’re honored to be bringing CreativeMornings to their space. 826LA will be hosting the event at their Echo Park Headquarters on Friday, February 22, 2013. Doors open at 8:30am and Joel will start his talk at 9am. Coffee and donuts will be provided and, as always, our events are free!
RSVP for this event opens on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11am. Thanks to Media Temple and AIGA Los Angeles for sponsoring our local chapter.
